Christmas is an annual festival celebrated to pay tribute to the birth of Jesus Christ, it is celebrated on 25 December as a religious and cultural festival among millions of people around the world, irrespective of their religion. It is a famous festival among all of us. Everyone celebrates this festival with their family, friends, relatives and enjoys a variety of food.

People decorate Christmas trees, decorate their homes, and cut cakes on Christmas night, then the next day parents give presents under the trees for their children or for relatives, friends. As a belief that Santa will give gifts to children they are very excited and happy. 

The church is very beautifully decorated on Christmas, everyone gives greeting cards and wishes everyone a Merry Christmas, people ask what they want for them or their family . Before Christmas day, schools celebrate this festival for children and the next day is a holiday for them.

Diwali Special

This festival is the biggest festival of India. Diwali indicate the spiritual "victory of Light over Darkness and Good over Evil". On this day Lord Ram, Laxman and Maa Sita came back to Ayodhya.

This festival is started with small festivals like:

Dussehra -  It is a Hindu festival celebrated every year at the end of Navratri. It also known as Vijayadashmi because on this day Ravan Dahan was done. 

Karva chauth - Karva chauth is a festival celebrated by Hindu women, on this day they keep fast for the whole day for their husbands long life and break their fast at night after seeing the full moon.

Dhanteras - It is the first day which indicates the festival of Diwali. It is celebrated on Krishna Paksha as on this day Lord Dhanvantari was born. There is a traditional trend to buy something new specially brass, silver and gold. On this day we worship Lord Dhanvantari and Maa Lakshmi.

  

Narak Chaturdashi -  It is also called Chhoti Diwali. It is celebrated because on this day an asur (demon) Narakasur was killed by Lord Krishna, Satyabhama and Maa kali.

What we do on Diwali?

On Diwali we decorate our houses by making rangolis and by hanging up lights on their walls and light up deepak everywhere in our homes, temples, shops etc. we light fireworks and ate sweets. We worship Lord Ganesha and Maa Lakshmi on this day.

2 October - Gandhi Jayanti

Gandhi Jayanti, it is a national festival celebrated in India to mark the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, born on 2 October 1869 so it is celebrated annually on 2 October, and it is one of the three national holidays of India. He was also known as Bapu.

Gandhi was an Indian lawyer, anti-colonial nationalist,and political ethicist, who employed nonviolent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India's independence from British Rule. After he return to India in 1915, he set about  organizing peasants, farmers, and urban labourers to protest against excessive land-tax and discrimination. Assuming leadership of the Indian National Congress in 1921, Gandhi led nationwide campaigns for various social causes and for achieving Swaraj or self-rule.

Gandhi led the Indians in challenging the British-imposed salt tax with the 400 km Dandi Salt March in 1930, and later called on the British to leave India in 1942. The 24-day march lasted from 12 March 1930 to 6 April 1930. He was imprisoned many years in both South Africa and In India. 
He ate simple vegetarian food, and undertook long fasts. He wore traditional dhoti and shawl, woven with yarn hand-spun on a charkha. He never used violence in his whole life, he along with all other freedom fighters devoted themselves to making India independent, that is why he was given the title of Father of the Nation and Mahatma Gandhi in India. He was assassinated on 30 January 1958 by Nathuram Godse, just 6 months after India's independence.

TEACHERS DAY SPECIAL

Teachers Day, the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan (5 September). Dr.S Radhakrishnan was awarded scholarships throughout his academic life. He was an Indian philosopher and statesman. He was also the second President of India and the first Vice President of India He was also awarded by several awards like knighthood  in 1931, Bharat Ratna in 1954.

When he became the President of India, his students and friends requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday, on 5 September. He replied that instead of celebrating his birthday it would be his proud privilege if September 5th is observed as Teachers' Day. His birthday has since been celebrated as Teachers' Day in India.

Teachers Day is a special day for our teachers, on this day show your love to your teachers, appreciate them by giving them a handmade gift, or do something special for your teachers. And not only on Teachers Day, we should respect our teachers always because they are bigger than God and as precious as our parents. Remember your teachers because of whom you are at the position of success, make your teachers feel proud on them to see you on the way of success.

Sisters tie a rakhi on their brother's wrist and pray for their well being while performing the ritual of aarti and in return brother offers a gift and promises to protect his sister from any kind of conditions. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY

Why it is celebrated?
As we know that it is celebrated on 15th August because our country India got independence from United Kingdom or the Britishers on 15th August, 1947. 15 August 1947, the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru raised the Indian national flag above the Lahori Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi. And this time something is going to happen in Kashmir.

How do we celebrate it?
In the morning on the Red Fort on 15th August, our Prime Minister do Flag hoisting, our army men do parade and different stunts are shown by them, fireworks and jet plane stunts are also a part of this day, singing patriotic songs and the national anthem, speech by the Prime Minister and President of India, different performances are done which people watch on television or visit to Red Fort to see these things. We also fly kites on this day.

It is a National Holiday on which we should remember our brave soldiers who fought for us and died for our country so that we can stay safe and secure with our family. We should be thankful to those soldiers who wake at night so that we can sleep.

What is Yoga?
Yoga is an activity which makes your mind calm and free from any kind of stress and tension Yoga is the powerful exercise in the world as it prevents our body from many diseases, it makes our body flexible, it can improve the power of eyes, yoga can also increase our height, it helps in weightless and many more benefits are there. Everyone in the world should practice yoga every morning for at least 45 minutes as this activity is very useful for meditation.

How Yoga Day or Yoga Divas arrived?
The idea of International Day of Yoga was first proposed by the current Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi during his speech at the UNGA (United Nations General Assembly), on 27 September 2014. Then International day for yoga was declared unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly. 

Yoga is a physical, mental and religious practice originated in India. The word Yoga is a Sanskrit word and it comes from the root word Yuja which basically means to bind. The Lord Shiva is considered the father of ancient yoga. In the 1920s and 30s, Hatha Yoga was strongly promoted in India by the work of Swami Sivananda, T. Krishnamacharya and other yogis practicing Hatha Yoga.

This year Yoga Divas will be celebrated by PM Narendra Modi at Rachi in the Prabhat Tara ground and over 30 thousand people are expected to participate in Yoga Divas 2019.

Eid mubarak

Eid ul-Fitr also known as 'Festival of Breaking the Fast'. It is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims that marks the end of Ramadan, which is the islamic holy month of fasting. On this day Muslims have a particular namaz [Islamic prayer] consisting of two rakats [units], it actually means consisting of the prescribed movements and words followed by Muslims while offering prayers to Allah. All these activities are done in an open field or large hall. Muslims believe that they are commanded by Allah, mentioned in the Quran [Religious book of Islaam] to continue their fast until the last day of Ramadan.

In this festival everyone meet their friends and relatives and wish them Eid Mubarak. The breakfast of Eid ul-fitr are sweet dishes, including boeber, vermicelli [Sewaiyaan] with dates and Ketupat. People go to their relatives houses and enjoy this festival with great happiness.

Holi is a Hindu festival and the only festival of colors. The festival describes the victory of good over evil. Everyone meet others, play, forgive and forget and repair broken relationships. The day before Holi is called Holika Dahan or Chhoti Holi and the next day is full of colors. We also eat sweets like Gujia and Malpua.                                                     

        

Why holika Dahan is celebrated?

Holika Dahan is celebrated due to the burning of Holika, the devil by Vishnu in order to save Prahlad who was a devotee of God Vishnu. Thus we celebrate Holika Dahan and Holi gets its name.

How do we celebrate Holi

We celebrate Holi by playing with colors, water guns (pichkari), and water balloons. We eat different sweets and repair our broken relationships. Everywhere is color and the happiness of Holi among us and all the people. People dance and blow up colors on this great festival and celebrate it with a great joy.

Pongal

Pongal

Pongal is a harvest festival dedicated to the Sun God. It is a four-day festival which according to the Tamil calendar usually celebrated from January 14 to January 17. Pongal corresponds to Makara Sankranti, the harvest festival celebrated throughout India. Thai Pongal is celebrated in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu,the Indian Union Trritory of Puducherry, and the country of Srilanka as well as Tamils World Wide including those in Malaysia, South Africa, USA, Singapore, Canada and United Kingdom (UK).

Pongal Dish

With rice and milk the ingredients of this sweet dish include cardamom, raisins, Green gram, and cashew nuts. Cooking is done in sunlight, usually in a porch or courtyard, as the dish is dedicated to the Sun god (Surya). The cooking is done in a clay pot that is decorated with colored patterns called kolam.The dish is served on banana leaves.

Happy Lohri and Makar Sankranti

Lohri is a very popular Punjabi folk festival celebrated by Sikhs and Hindus from the Punjab. Lohri is celebrated to mark the end of peak winter, this festival is traditionally associated with the harvest of the rabi crops. And thus, Punjabi farmers see the day after Lohri  as the financial New Year.



During the day of Lohri, children go from door to door singing folk songs. These children are given sweets and savories, and occasionally, money. The collections gathered by the children are known as Lohri that consist of til, gachchak, crystal sugar, peanuts and popcorn. The bonfire is lit at sunset in the main village square. People  gur, crystal sugar and rewaries on the bonfire, sit around it, sing and dance till the fire dies out.


Makar Sankranti, also known as Maghi, is a festival day in the Hindu calendar, in reference to deity Surya (sun).It marks the first day of sun's transit and marking the end of the month with the midwinter and the start of longer days. Makar Sankranti is observed with social festivities such as colorful decorations, rural children going house to house, singing and asking for treats in some areas (or pocket money), fairs, dances, kite flying, bonfires and feasts. The most famous fair of Makar Sankranti is the Kumbha Mela, held every 12 years at one of four holy locations which are Haridwar, Allahabad, Ujjain and Nashik.
